Here is my spill on the upcoming election. As you can read on some of my earlier post, I think God pays at least a little attention to these things, yet leaves us free choice, kind of like He did with Israel and Saul. They asked for a king, He told them what would happen, and then He gave them a king who acted just like God said. ( See 1 Samuel Chapters 8-10)
Also you will note that I think America is the "Promised Land" for the Gentiles, and that a large part of our reason for being is the protection of the true Promised Land, Israel. And lots of prophesy scholars believe that the symbolic eagle mentioned in Isiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, and Zechariah that helps Israel flee the anti-Christ in the end times is America. I cannot say whether it is America, but I find it hard to believe that if Israel is being invaded from the north and east by two different armies bent on her destruction that America will not be around in some way. All we can say for sure is that God supernaturally intervenes and Israel is taken to Petra (an ancient rock fortress and city in the deserts on the border of Israel, Syria, and Jordan; mostly Jordan) and that some of the prophets mentioned both a bear and eagle being involved. let me remind you that the national symbol of the US is an eagle and a bear is Russia's. The Bible actually almost names the bear (see Ezekiel, where Meschac, Tubal, and Roosh are mentioned). Let me remind you also that Russia has a strategic plan of invading the Middle East to control oil in the event of nuclear war, and the US, Israel, and NATO also have contigency plans.
Now, what does this have to do with our election? OK, it will seem like I am going off into left field, but bear with me here: You would think that a country who has over 80% of the population professing a belief in God, 60% in Jesus, and 47% in both as 1, that we would have no problem electing a President who upheld our values, but we don't. Here is why: Out of the 60% of people who proclaim Christ, less than 20% vote in every election. Of the 40% who don't claim Christ, 88% do. So a small minority of the people make decisions for the rest of us, and we let them do it.
Ministers are not supposed to become very involved with elections; at least they are not supposed to tell their congregations how to vote, but I feel this one is different. See, Barack Obama has said that the defense of Israel is not our top priority, as it has been since 1948. (To let you know, other than defense of our homeland, protection of Israel is a fundemental military doctrine of the US). He also states that not only does he think women should be able to have abortions, but if the abortion procedure fails, and the baby survives (which is possible after the 6th month, maybe earlier) that the doctors should not provide life-saving procedures on the infant. He also states that he believes homosexual marriage is not only not a sin, but that God is ok with it. And to top it all off, he is on record as saying that the far-left wing fo his parties basic ideals should trump party members religious beliefs. Of course, we know McCains stance on all of these. While he is not a "religious" person, he does oppose all of the above vehemently. BTW, you can find all of those facts on Obama's own website. You will have to dig, but you will find it, and much more.
Now to tie these two areas together: Friends we are seeing more Bible prophecy fullfilled today than at any other time since the events surrounding Jesus' birth, death, and ressurrection. We are headed full speed into the last days. While preachers have always said that the "end is near", it has never been this bad before. The world has always been perilous, but never as perilous as it is today. Take the time to re-read Matthew 24 and 25, and then go turn on your TV to a news network. From Jesus' own mouth, you can see that as Christians we should be looking up, for our "redemption draweth nigh". Hallaleuiah.
There is much work to be done. Shouldn't we have a good, conservative, God- fearing president in office when this happens? I can tell you, you don't want to be on the wrong side of the upcoming final battle in which the Lamb claims Victory.
So VOTE. Tell all of your Christian friends to VOTE. Consider holding drives at your Church (with your pastors permission, of course). Don't tell them who to vote for, because if they are in touch with the Holy Spirit, they will know who to choose!
Now this is a long post isn't it? Sorry, but we have a vested interest in all of this. While the Saved will be removed from the earth before the Great Tribulation Jesus speaks of, lots of people we know and love will still be here on earth. Don't we owe it to them to warn them?
In closing, thanks for continuing to read, and let me apologize for being so sporadic in my post, but I promise to get better!! And please, use the comment forum! It is there for you, and it lets me share your comments and suggestions with everybody. You can leave them anomonousley if you are a little embarrased-there is no way that even I would be able to tell who you were!
God bless you all!
Forever Your Brother and Fellow Worker in Christ,
Jesse
